Free includes a one-time trial with 50 chats or deep summaries, valid for 30 days from activation. Unused trial usage expires at the end of the trial and is not renewed automatically.

Chat and deep summaries use your OpenRouter key. Some other cloud features can also create a small OpenRouter cost in Online mode, such as semantic-search query embeddings. Semantic search is included on all plans and does not count toward the trial limit.

Pro Lifetime includes the major version you purchased. If a future major version is released, upgrade pricing may apply. Purchases made in the 12 months before that release receive the major upgrade at no additional charge; otherwise, upgrade pricing will apply.
Common questions
How much does the AI cost?
pinakea uses OpenRouter for cloud AI. You use your own API key, you see exactly what you spend — no pinakea surcharge, no hidden markup, no bundled credits. This applies to Free, Pro Monthly, and Pro Lifetime. See /doc/ai-openrouter-pricing/llm-cost-openrouter for details.
What counts toward the trial limit?
Chat and deep summaries count toward the trial limit. Titles, tags, micro summaries, and semantic search are always free. Free includes a one-time trial with 50 chats or deep summaries for 30 days with no renewal. Pro Monthly and Pro Lifetime include unlimited chat and deep summaries. In Online mode, semantic search can still create a very small OpenRouter embedding cost per search. See /doc/ai-openrouter-pricing/paid-features for details.
Is browser access included on Free?
Free includes browser access and the bundled local MCP bridge during the same one-time 30-day trial as chat and deep summaries. After the trial ends, both features require Pro on an active Mac.
How does Pro Monthly billing work?
Pro Monthly is a recurring monthly subscription sold through Paddle, our Merchant of Record. You can cancel any time, and cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.
What does Pro Lifetime include?
Pro Lifetime is a one-time purchase for unlimited chat and deep summaries in the purchased major version. Future major versions may have upgrade pricing, but if you bought Pro Lifetime within 12 months before a major release, that upgrade is included. Otherwise, upgrade pricing will apply.
How are refunds handled?
Refunds are handled by Paddle as Merchant of Record according to Paddle's policies and applicable law. See /terms#refund-policy for details.
Is my data private?
Your original files, pinakea database, and local index stay on your Mac, and pinakea does not upload or store your content on its own servers. Online Mode sends automatic item processing through OpenRouter to cloud AI providers. Mixed Mode keeps embeddings, short summaries, AI titles, and AI tags local, while chat and deep summaries still use OpenRouter. See /privacy/ for the full privacy model.
How do I manage plans and billing?
Download pinakea from this site, then use Settings → License in the app to start checkout, activate this Mac, or manage plan status. Billing administration for paid plans is handled through Paddle's customer tools.
